Has it been a whole year?

It seems impossible that a whole year has gone by without a post to our blog! It’s not that we haven’t seen nearly everything that’s come out. It’s an exciting time of year. The Golden Globe winners have just been announced and the Academy Awards are on the horizon. Some of my recent favorites: The Visitor, Slumdog Millionaire and Gran Torino (each one a great story with universal themes and cross-cultural dimensions). I have yet to actually see The Reader but I’ve read the novel upon which the film is based as well as the film script. I have mixed feelings about the premise of the story ( a 15-year old boy has an affair with a 36-year old former Nazi death camp guard) but the book is so well-written it is compelling. Not one I’ll pay theatre prices for but I’ll definitely see it on DVD.
